American Red Cross Derby Day
What is Derby Day? Derby Day is a Fundraiser for American Red Cross, Kadena Air Base. Teams build a car and obtain sponsorship and their driver races the car down "killer hill" on Douglas Boulevard near Marek Park. Teams compete for single elimination, with the first car and driver to cross the finish line wins.
When? May 1st, 2010
Where? Marek Park, Douglas Boulevard, Kadena Air Base
How? Obtain the materials and build a derby car. This may be from the suggested list or you can design your own. Just be sure it meets the rules and is a safe car to race. You will also need obtain sponsorship to enter the race by contacting local business, friends, neighbors or co-workers. Sponsorship is the fundraising part of the Derby Day, as all funds are turned in (along with the application ) to the American Red Cross, Building 220, Kadena Air Base by April 23. What's next? You bring your Derby Car to the Red Cross to be inspected for safety April 24 and 25th. The day of the race make sure the driver is dressed in the proper safety attire.
Interested in a food booth? Food booths are available for rental at the Derby Day. Burgers and Hotdogs? Funnel Cakes? Burritos? Booster clubs and organizations can participate and do their own fundraiser at Derby Days. Registration is $100. Booster clubs and orgnaizations keep all profits.
